Robert Stephens, Solitary Traveler Photography
Robert Stephens has traveled throughout the southeast for the past 20 years, and with the advent of social networks such as MySpace (and later, Facebook), he began writing about and sharing with friends his experiences on the road. He also illustrated his writings with images, first taken on a (very primitive) camera phone, then on a simple point-and-shoot, and finally a Nikon SLR camera which he uses today.
"I 'shoot as I go,' meaning, whatever catches my eye I tend to capture on (digital) film, so my work is diverse and wide-ranging as a result. I capture everything from beaches and mountains, sunsets and waterfalls, to churches, large buildings, and panoramic views of large cities. I have developed a style of photography that gives my work a painting-like feel, which for the many landscape photos I take, is just what I'm after," Stephens says.
This particular set of images was taken one February in the "High Country" of North Carolina, near Boone and Linville. This was the first significant snowfall he was able to capture this year, and he came away with a bumper crop of images, especially at Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, and surrounding areas.
