The hand-carved wooden creations on display in “War Dogs” are symbolic of the sacrifices made by canine and human warriors alike.
Since the American Revolutionary War, military working dogs have served all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The unique exhibition, “War Dogs: Never Above You, Never Below You, Always Beside You,” highlights the history, service, and heroism of these incredible four-legged warriors.
Featuring a display of life-sized, hand-carved wooden sculptures designed and created by Ohio Master Craftsman James Mellick, “War Dogs” helps bring attention to stories of perseverance, bravery, and sacrifice while honoring the important role military working dogs play in serving and protecting countless lives in conflicts across the globe.
In addition, a collection of combat art and objects on loan from the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the United States Navy, and the United States Coast Guard rounds out this extraordinary presentation of specific stories about these dogs and their handlers from World War II, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan in this one-of-a-kind exhibition.
