Nationally Acclaimed Painters Compete for Thousands in Prize Money
The Sixth Annual Bath County Plein Air Festival celebrates the tradition of outdoor painting with a competition featuring 30 outstanding artists from Virginia and across the country, October 1–7, 2018. The Warm Springs Gallery hosts this weeklong event.
Artists will immerse themselves in the stunning views and pristine landscapes that define Bath County, competing for over $8000 in prize money. Visitors and local residents are invited to observe artists as they paint on location around the county.
This year, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, a nonprofit (501-C3) environmental organization, will receive a percentage of the artists' sales. Given the festival's collaboration with the Cowpasture River Preservation Association, artists will spend much of their time painting along this pristine river.
Special Events
Wednesday, October 3. Sunset and Nocturne Paint Out. Meet the 2018 artists at as they capture the setting sun and night sky on their canvases.
Thursday, October 4. Farm to Table Dinner. Fort Lewis Lodge will host a Farm to Table Dinner. Artists will on the grounds painting and display their work at this event.
Friday, October 5. BBQ and Concert. Bath County native Cleek Schrey & Friends will perform a concert at Camp Mont Shenandoah. The venue features larger paintings on display and for sale.
Saturday, October 6. Gala Celebration. The Warm Springs Gallery, Warm Springs, hosts a Gala Celebration including hors d'oeuvres, wine, and fresh paintings by festival artists. This is a special opportunity for art patrons and enthusiasts to meet the artists and purchase one of 250+ paintings created during the festival week.
Sunday, October 7. Small Painting Sunday and Brunch. The festival concludes with an exhibition and sale of small paintings produced during the week.
Explore one of the most beautiful and rural counties in Virginia while interacting with some of the nation’s top plein air painters. Many events are free and open to the public.
