"Papercuts" presents the centuries-old tradition of paper cutting both as an art form and as a contemporary meditation on culture, beauty, and the boundaries between nature and artifice. The seven artists featured in this exhibition create complex and delicate objects; some artists slice away unwanted sections of paper, others select paper-based products from material culture, and some add other media to their work. The results can deceive the viewer into believing that they are not seeing works formed out of the "simple" medium of paper. The artists featured in this exhibition are Jaq Belcher, BĂ©atrice Coron, Michelle Forsyth, Reni Gower, Lenka Konopasek, Lauren Scanlon, and Daniella Woolf. "Papercuts" was organized by Reni Gower and Virginia Commonwealth University's Painting and Printmaking Department. Through September 14. Hours are Tuesday - Friday 10 am to 4 pm; Saturday 1-5 pm.
