I-26 West NC Welcome Center Tourism Day
to
I-26 West NC Welcome Center 6178 I-26, mile marker 6, Mars Hill, North Carolina 28754
Since the opening of the I-26 West NC Welcome Center in August of 2003, the center has been celebrating National Tourism Week every first Friday of May. This year’s May 6th event, from 10am-2pm, will only outshine our previous years. A time to say thank-you to travelers and locals, we bring a fun and festive atmosphere to the center with live music, fun activities and interesting displays. Madison County native fiddler Roger Howell and friends, will be here to perform again; as well as Joel Shimburg, our roving fiddler. Pick up literature about area attractions and accommodations such as the new Blue Ridge Heritage Trail and Fontana Village Resort. Long time favorites like the Blue Ridge Parkway Association and WNC Farmer’s Market will also be here. Also new this year will be Monarch Watch’s Nina Veteto talking about monarchs and milkweed; as well as the NC Wildlife Commission with casting demonstrations. The day would not be complete without Mars Hill University’s clogging national champions the Bailey Mountain Cloggers. “Rounding” out the day with a fun finale, the cloggers perform at the front entrance and include the Mars Hill Elementary 2nd grade class. So come on out to Mars Hill and enjoy some free goodies or bring a picnic to our vast grounds with grills. We look forward to seeing you!
