Grandparents Day

Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Generation Solutions present Grandparents Day: A Celebration of Decades Gone By at Tanglewood Mall. On Sunday September 8th from 1PM until 5PM you can step back in time and step to the tunes of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. The day will be complete with live music and contests galore reminiscent of the period from 1956-1989. The sounds of the band “40 Years After” are sure to keep you in step!

Enter the pre-event contest and be the impersonator you’ve always thought you could be. 10 selected participants will perform live the day of the event. DVD or Video submission of your performance must be submitted by August 1. Visit www.RoanokeCountyParks.com for full details.

Pull out your favorite mini skirt or leisure suit, bell bottoms or platform shoes and enter our Most Authentic Costume and Most Authentic Twosome contests. If you prefer a bit more action enter the Twist, Monster Mash or Hula Hoop contests. During this special day you can share your memories and help them to come alive for your grandchildren.

To make the day complete there will be hotdogs, cherry cokes and other treats to enjoy. A Big Hair Contest and Ugliest Leisure Suit Contest will even be thrown in with a few other surprises that you won’t want to miss. Grandparents Day is designed for family members of all ages but especially for grandparents who wish to share the richness of their lives with their grandchildren and to grow together as a family.

A hardworking and dedicated committee will be lending their support to this event so that we can promise you a day filled with beautiful and lasting memories.
