Elk Viewing Tour

Elk were reintroduced to Kentucky in 1997 as a restoration project by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. From 1997-2003 approximately 1513 elk were transported into Kentucky. Reproduction has been very high, with approximately 90% of the adult cows producing calves. Currently, the estimated elk populattion in Kentucky is over 10,000 elk. The bet areas for elk habitat are on reclaimed surface mines in Eastern Kentucky.
