High Bridge is a little known relic of the final days of the War Between the States and played a major transportation link in Lee’s retreat from Petersburg. Located near Farmville Virginia, it is one of Virginia’s newest state parks. The bridge is 2,400 ft long and rises 160 ft above the Appomattox River along a level rail grade. We will walk the length of the bridge as historian Len DiIioa describes Lee’s retreat during the last days of the war. We will then tour the new wing of the Museum of the Confederacy that has been recently installed at Appomattox. Lunch will be in historic Appomattox. RSVP by Saturday, November 2nd. $15 members, $20 nonmembers. For more information and to register, please call 434-325-8169.
