Seven Days in the Art World by Sarah Thornton
Moderated by Lauren Bacchus, Museum Shop & Event Coordinator.
Contemporary art has become a mass entertainment, a luxury good, a job description and, for some, a kind of alternative religion. Thornton’s shrewd and entertaining fly-on-the-wall narrative takes us behind the scenes of the art world, from art school to auction house, showing us how it works and giving us a vivid sense of being there.
This monthly discussion is a place to exchange ideas about readings that relate to artworks and the art world, and to learn from and about each other. Bring your copy of the book, and a brown-bag lunch to make the most of your midday break! Books are available at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café (55 Haywood Street, Asheville 28801) for a 10% discount.
