4TH ANNUAL FLOYD MARDI GRAS COSTUME BALL
Saturday, February 9, 2013, 6:30pm - midnight
Celebration Hall at Floyd Eco Village, 718 Franklin Pike, Floyd
A fundraiser for Blue Mountain School
Floyd is many things to many people, and to most people one of those things is fun. There has seldom been a resident of Floyd who knew how to have as good a time as Tom Ryan did. Floyd’s first Mardi Gras King was also a visionary with a generous community spirit, who helped put Floyd’s Mardi Gras on the map and supported Blue Mountain School in many other ways besides.
In this year’s Blue Mountain School fundraiser we pay tribute to this mountain of a human spirit in the way he would want us to: we’re going to have a great big party!
Here are some highlights to prepare for:
Music:
As usual, our headline act, Lagniappe, includes a list of local luminaries, namely Kerry Hurley from the Fat Daddy Blues Band, the Blue Ridge Blues Society and 101.5 The Music Place’s Blues With A Feeling; Kris Hodges—the man behind FloydFest; The Kind’s Tom Snediker; and Dylan Locke—formerly of Yams From Out Of Space and now the Jefferson Center’s Artistic Director.
Opening for Lagniappe is another killer outfit playing together for the first time, Opening Act, featuring Janiah Allen (Alliens), John Hill (Materia Project), Cam McLaughlin (Alliens, Duality), "EZ" Eddie McClain (HopeHop) and Jamiel Allen (Alliens, Blue Ridge Dub Alliance). This will be one of the hottest debut performances southwest Virginia has ever seen, so don’t miss it.
Spoon Fight—Blue Mountain School alumni who have performed at every single Floyd Mardi Gras. If you haven’t seen them yet, why not?
Prizes:
As usual, Lagniappe are awarding prizes from the stage—for costumes, dancing, and anything else they come up with.
