2016 Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy

Come to the 2016 Wintergreen Summer Music Festival where our theme this July is “Expect the Unexpected.” From our much-anticipated Classics concerts to our not-to-be missed Wild Wednesdays, experience some of the world’s greatest music played by distinguished guest artists and our fully professional orchestra in the setting of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Choose from events and performances highlighting music, theatre, film, literature, history, food, and wine.

We’ll explore the fascinating stories behind the music we love so much. We’ll learn about George Gershwin’s great surprise – a surprise that turned into the celebrated Rhapsody in Blue. We’ll explore music by female composers and find out what Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, and Quincy Jones have in common. We'll have an evening of traditional and modern Motown music. We’ll even have a bit of Christmas in July with a rendition of Handel’s Messiah featuring … YOU (if you are so inclined!). And, of course, we’ll continue our work educating the next generation of musicians with our celebrated Summer Music Academy.
