Kurt's Hike: Jan. 26, 2013
Snow on Tinker Mountain, 1/26/2013.
With an inch or two of snow having fallen the night before, we decided to stay pretty local and short with this walk we've done a jillion times. It does continue to change in small ways – from that recent-years little bend through the pines near the start to the utility-line clearing going on not much farther along.
But overall, it's a little more than an hour up to the viewpoint rock overlooking Carvins Cove – looking pretty full-pond down there – and a place for lunch, thought we had to clear some snow to make a place to sit down.
There were multiple tracks in the snow as we went up, and more people on the way up as we came back down.
Appalachian Trail from U.S. 220 at Daleville to Carvins Cove overlook at back. About 5.6 miles.
How to get there: Exit 150N from I-81 to parking area just south of the Exxon station.
