"Appalachian Summer Sunrise" Wilburn Ridge, Mount Rogers Recreation Area I took a quick trip down to Mount Rogers for a sunrise hike last week and witnessed an absolutely breathtaking sunrise! This is definitely the prettiest hike in Virginia, especially on a beautiful morning in early June in the Catawba Rhododendron bloom.

As we waited for the sun to rise behind Table Rock and Hawksbill in the distance, I happened to turn around because I was concerned there was yet another storm pushing through at 6 am through the area. The wind was intense this past Tuesday morning, but felt so good because it helped dry things out from the previous afternoons heavy downpour. We wanted to get a few sunrise shots, but then we saw this rainbow catching a ride with those ominous clouds. It was really cool to stand on top of the mountain watching as the rainbow rolled over the mountains towards us. Then, in the blink of an eye, the rainbow was gone, and the storm clouds broke up before reaching us.

Got up on the parkway a little late last night to be close enough to the storms that came through, but still really happy with what I did get.... Such energy this time of year in the night skies, such a beautiful night on the parkway.
