During the late winter and early spring months, the Milky Way rises low in the sky in the early morning hours. Later in the year, it rises higher and higher throughout the summer months until it is almost directly above our heads. Creating a Milky Way panorama is virtually impossible in the summer months, making this time of year the perfect period of time to create an image like this. To give this image scale (taken from the Hawksbill summit), the peak of Table Rock sits just below the Galactic Core on the right side of the image and the lights of Morganton stretch out below the entire expanse of the Milky Way arch.
