September’s Mountain Wildflower: Ghost Pipe

Containing no chlorophyll, this plant rises from the soil on translucent, waxy-looking stems, and the pinkish-white flower nods back toward the ground, giving the whole plant the appearance of a fancily carved soapstone pipe.
