Grab your hiking boots and step into the rich history and vibrant landscapes of Sky Meadows State Park, once known as the Mount Bleak Farm. Begin your journey at the historic Mount Bleak House, built around 1843, and trace the paths through fields once owned by a founding father, Civil War soldier, World War II British diplomat, and more! This 1860-acre park combines six historic properties, each contributing to the legacy of farming and family heritage dating back to the 1700s. Revel in fascinating stories along this 2-mile easy hike.

About First Day Hikes
Every year on Jan. 1, Virginia State Parks celebrates First Day Hikes. This nationwide initiative invites people to ring in the new year by connecting with nature and making lasting memories at a state park. Ranger-led and self-guided First Day Hikes are offered across the state, giving visitors of all ages and skill levels the chance to explore outdoors. January 1 is a Free Parking Day at all Virginia State Parks. (The admission fee at Natural Bridge still applies).
