The Gatlinburg Farmers Market will once again open this Saturday, May 17th, starting its forth season. The Market continues to grow in popularity as it offers delicious and healthy local foods to our neighbors and visitors. Due to popular demand, we are starting a half hour earlier. The market will be open every Saturday through October 11th, from 8 to 11:30 am. Our new location is at the Covered Bridge in the Glades at 849 Glades Road. Enjoy fresh coffee, baked goods, delicious local buttermilk and buttermilk ice cream, herbs, farm to table produce, fresh cut flowers, mushrooms, jams, jellies and honey and more, all while listening to local blue grass from Boogertown Gap.
"We typically have a nice selection of vendors at the market, with the number growing as the season progresses," Nancy Gray, President, says. "Customers can expect to find farm fresh produce, baked goods, poultry, eggs, honey, and plants."
Farmers markets are an integral part of the urban/farm linkage and have continued to rise in popularity, mostly due to the growing consumer interest in obtaining fresh products directly from the farm. The Gatlinburg Farmers Market allows consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce, as well as allow our economy to grow by supporting local businesses.
Food in the United States travels an average of 1,500 miles to get to the kitchen table. All this shipping uses large amounts of natural resources (especially fossil fuels), contributes greatly to pollution, and creates excess trash with extra packaging. Today, there are nearly 4,800 farmers markets operating throughout the nation.
New vendors are welcome to participate in the market. http://www.gatlinburgfarmersmarket.com
