The three Rotary Clubs of Oak Ridge ,TN, kick off the three-day Flatwater Festival June 1 with a three-hour writing seminar by Minton Sparks, author, poet and storyteller. Flatwater Festival, the family festival, runs from noon to 9:00 on Saturday. June 2, on Melton Hill Lake with a fun regatta directed by the Oak Ridge Rowing Association, cardboard boat races, music, food, drink and children's activities all afternoon long. On Sunday, June 3, Flatwater Tales begins the first storytelling festival in Oak Ridge with three internationally know storytellers: Bill Lepp, Tim Lowry and Minton Sparks headline two sessions at the Oak Ridge Playhouse in historic Jackson Square. The tellers will present completely different stories at each session, one from 2:00 to 5:00 and the second from 6:30 to 9:30. Kiran Singh Sirah, president of the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, TN, will introduce both sessions. All three are Oak Ridge 75th Anniversary events.
