This mostly paved urban walk was occasioned by a busy weekend and was timed to include a 4 pm indoor soccer game for the two nine-year-old grandsons, Matthew and Aden.
The walk pleased The Day Hiker for several reasons: no long drive; no being cold at lunch; and most of all, lunch at a restaurant!
The river greenway was pretty empty for such a warming, though still-chilly afternoon.
Lunch at the Fork was good'n'tasty.
At the PH gym, the little U10 guys were severely overmatched against a fast-moving, foot-taller U12 squad. The team seems to have a good perspective though: We're learning and getting good practice.
The thing about a flat, urban walk: You just don't get that good having-hiked feelin', even at 7 or so miles.
Out the door, down the street to Memorial Ave to the Roanoke River Greenway to Rivers Edge complex to Fork in the Alley, up to Colonial Avenue to Murray Run Greenway to Patrick Henry High School and home. About 7 miles.
How to get there: Out the door of the house.
