Kurt's Hikes: September 2015
Well, looks like we didn’t take any photos all September; here’s one from a nifty August hike to Grassy Ridge Natural Area near Rocky Mount.
September 5: Bottom Creek Gorge trails. About 5 miles.
Nice day, nice walk, nice lunch just above the overlook as a small family had that outpost pretty well accounted for while we were there. The new-to-us sign at the overlook was apparently put up during the summer, and recognizes "the contributions of long-time volunteers Malcolm and Jimmie Black, the husband and wife duo ‘retired' from volunteering when they both turned 90! ”
September 13: From home via, in part, the Roanoke River Greenway to dinner at Wildflower Towers and back. 4.5 miles.
Cheap urban walk to fine dinner as always.
September 20: Tinker Creek Greenway from Plantation Road to Carvins Cove and back. 5 miles.
This was toward the end of our part of Virginia’s mild drought, and the water level was down about nine feet from full pond. We walked on beyond the boat-launch area and nabbed a picnic table looking down on the water for lunch.
September 26: From home to downtown Roanoke and back. 6 miles.
Another non-forest walk, given time and weather—this time to a fine meal at Billy’s Restaurant.
