Hikes: June 2016
June 4: Monument Trail, Star Trail, loop road on Mill Mountain. 4 miles.
A bike ride from home took us to the base of the mountain, followed by a walk in the woods, lunch at the summit and the stroll back down.
June 12. Appalachian Trail, Old Hotel Trail loop. 6 miles.
The only disadvantage to doing this loop with a start on the AT is that lunch on Cold Mountain, pretty as it always is, is well before halfway through the walk . . . not a problem for The Day Hiker, but feeling a little premature for me.
June 19. Poor Mountain Nature Preserve Trails loop. 4 miles.
Another easy walk in a month of easy walks.
June 25. Horse Pen and Lakeside trails out and back at Carvins Cove. 5 miles.
The dog doesn’t get to do too many hikes in the warm months, but a walk that includes a lot of proximity to water works well for her, although at lunch she’ll beg again and again for the stick tossed into the water for swim-fetch.
(note: picture not from the latest June hikes, but we always want to see Kurt and the Greatest Day Hiker in his blog posts!)
