A Piece of Wintergreen’s Past: The Copper Mines
to
The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen 3421 Wintergreen Drive, Wintergreen, Virginia 22958
Join The Nature Foundation as we climb into Wintergreen’s past with a trip to the copper mines. This unique spot on the very steep east slope of Crawford’s Knob was an active mine in the late 1890s before being quickly abandoned. Not only are the mines unique, but its location is also fascinating, located in a lovely depression along a creek bed acting as home to a variety of wildlife including deer, turkey, and, of course, bats. This is a trip every Wintergreen resident must put on their “bucket list.” Difficult. Bring lunch and plenty of water. $5/Member, $8/Non-Member.
