A round-up of Kurt's July hikes.
July 3: South River Falls loop in Shenandoah National Park. 4.8 miles.
A new hike for us, and pretty easy and rewarding, as it included not only the falls view, but also the falls up-close and a stretch of the Appalachian Trail at the end of the loop.
July 11: Appalachian Trail north from FR 36 to Fullers Rocks and back. 5.4 miles.
We sort of cheated on both ends of the infamous 23-switchback climb, opting to start in on the forest road instead of from 501, and going just to Fullers Rocks instead of on up to Little Rocky Row. Still plenty of huff’n’puff and still the great view down onto the James.
July 19-23: Various hike-bikes from Litchfield Resort along the East Coast Greenway, and from Shell Island Resort to downtown Wrightsville Beach and back. 10ish miles on foot, 20ish on bikes.
Plus beach walks on a great week at the ocean.
July 26: Home to Beamer’s 25 and back. 5.2 miles.
The day after you get home from the beach you can’t talk The Day Hiker into going into the woods.
