Old National Road. U.S. 40 Historic road runs through western Maryland counties and was the first federally funded highway connecting East and West, authorized in 1806. Costly repairs and state government decisions caused it to be rerouted through the Narrows in 1832.

Ocean City to Oakland Scenic Path. 432-mile route which encompasses U.S. 219, U.S. 40, Md. 68, Md. 66 and Md. 491 in western Maryland.
