The City of Westminster, SC will again transform into the city of Mayberry for the 5th Annual Mayberry Comes to Westminster Festival May 1 – 2.
Prior to the opening ceremonies on May 1, the 2nd annual Crime Stoppers Golf Tourney will take place at the Oconee Country Club on April 30.. That evening the “Finding the Way Back to Mayberry” Bible study will again take place at Westminster Baptist Church.
Mayberry look-a-likes, or tribute artists will be back to entertain folks during the weekend. Headlining is David Browning, The Mayberry Deputy, who for the last 26 years has portrayed the infamous Barney Fife all over America. Along with The Mayberry Deputy will be Tim “Goober” Pettigrew, Michael “Gomer” Oliver, Phil “Ernest T. Bass” Lee, Jeff “Howard Sprague” Branch, Kenneth “Otis Campbell” Junkin, Keith “Col Harvey” Brown, Bob “Briscoe Darling” Mundy, and Christy "Andylene" McLendon. Many of these talented artists appeared at the event the past four years.
On Saturday afternoon The VW Boys Blue Grass band will present "Memories of Mayberry" in the Westminster Music Hall. Also TAGS alumnus LeRoy Mack will be in concert Friday evening in the Music Hall. LeRoy and his wife, Jan, are the Honorary Parade Marshals of this years festival.
Several other venues are planned along with two Mayberry Day parades Saturday, a Cruise in featuring vintage autos, whistling, look-a-like and trivia contests, a silent auction of Mayberry items, arts and craft displays, food venues, a silent auction and more.
