From old roots, new shoots. Take a stroll — or a trolley ride! — down Main Street and visit four recently restored 18th, 19th and early 20th century homes and gardens located within a half mile of each other in the historic downtown. These first-time-on-tour properties will tell you a tale of restoration and adaptive reuse — all four have received awards for historic preservation. Lexington, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is a unique time capsule of architectural styles.
Home to both VMI and W&L, this Shenandoah Valley town is also a thriving commercial center bustling with art galleries, unique shops and restaurants, private residences and historic inns.
Tour highlights include presentations on Tax Credits and the Restoration of Historic Buildings and The History of Main Street plus tours of the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, container gardening demonstrations, refreshments and blue grass music.
Enjoy a special Garden Day luncheon available at downtown restaurants and plan to stay the night in an historic downtown inn, hotel or B&B.
